For shopify merchants doing bespoke workTake a deposit at checkout, then invoice or charge the balance on a date you set.
Handsel is for made-to-order work: furniture, tailoring, commissions. Set a deposit per product or collection, as a percent or a fixed amount, with a minimum. The buyer chooses to pay a deposit at your Shopify checkout. The balance falls due days after the order, on a fixed date, or after the order ships, and is invoiced or charged to the card used at checkout. One ledger shows every balance still owed and how late it is, with at most one reminder per order a day. No cap on deposit volume.

The problem
Take a deposit at checkout, then invoice or charge the balance on a date — with one ledger of every balance still owed, how late it is, and who gets a reminder today.
It answers what a merchant taking deposits actually asks:
- How much does the buyer pay today on this product, and what is left?
- When is the rest due — a number of days after the order, a fixed date, or after it ships?
- Is it invoiced, or charged to the card they used at checkout?
- Who still owes me, how much, and how late are they?
- Who should get a reminder today, and what does it say?
What it does
Inside Handsel
balances owed, overdue, due in the next 7 days, deposits taken, balances collected; every problem in words with a link; the reminders to send today; the ageing bands.
per product, per collection, or every product: percentage or fixed amount per item, a minimum deposit per item, a minimum line before a deposit is offered at all, when the balance is due (days after the order, a fixed date, or days after fulfilment), and whether it is invoiced or charged. Each rule shows the selling plan group Shopify gets. Below, the whole catalogue priced at one of each — deposit and balance — with the bad rows marked.
put items in a cart and see "Pay in full" against "Pay a deposit" the way the product page offers it, what is paid today and what is left and when. Place order records it as a bench order with the deposit paid, so it can be followed through the ledger.
every deposit order; each in detail with the money, the terms it was sold on (editable), payments (record a balance payment or a refund), the reminder timeline, and the exact Admin API calls for its balance. Record a phone order is for a commission agreed off the shop.
every balance still owed, most overdue first, banded by age (not late, 1–30, 31–60, 61–90, over 90, no due date), with a total and Save as CSV.
shop name, currency, "due soon" window, the reminder days, the "as of" day, look, backup / restore / sample / erase. Records live in this browser under the localStorage key handsel.v1. Save a backup file from Settings now and then. A record that cannot be read is set aside under its own key, never written over.
